accessible or not accessible? - SOUTH BRENT
Here’s a chair side view of wheeling in South Brent, Devon… It’s 2 minutes 10 seconds of a perspective you may not understand – but you will after watching this…
We were asked if we could see how accessible it is for a manual wheelchair user to get from South Brent Old School Community Centre into the centre of the village - a journey of about 100 meters... This video is the result of that journey taken by Debby and Marie of Rogue Debby CIC in their power chairs.

Marie & Debby did not feel safe and they're pretty sharp in their chairs.

We hear you, while filming in South Brent - Marie and Debby thought they were gonna die twice!

Your residents are not happy either, it's not a safe layour for people of many ages whether fit and healthy or not. Many people spoke to us about the lack of safety measures... a pelican/zebra crossing? A roundabout layout instead of a blind five-way junction?

South Brent Council staff
you need to get in a wheelchair and see how difficult it is to access the pavements and dropped kerbs as the paving you have implemented is only of use to people with impaired vision - in many places it is laid so bad - we had to find alternative ways to cross streets.
We'd love to read your perspectives after watching this whether you use a chair or not - we're hoping this video gets shared enough that non-chair users understand our plight - and perhaps councils will be more thoughtful when planning accessibility options in their towns!
Thank you for watching! Please share share share this video so more people understand why us wheelchair users are not always where we should be - or where we want to beRogue Debby and 'DJ' Marie
